Project Description
At 17,000 square feet, the new Diamond Head Theatre is a focal point for the local arts community in Hawaii. The construction team confronted significant challenges due to the theatre’s requirement to remain operational throughout the construction process. While demolishing the existing theatre at the project’s onset would have been the easiest and most convenient way to build, the need to remain operational posed logistical complexities that required careful coordination, which our team successfully achieved. The new theatre features a full fly loft, enhanced audio-visual capabilities, and improved sight lines. It includes additional restrooms, an expanded box office, upgraded concessions, new dressing rooms, green room spaces, an improved scene shop, and back-of-house areas. With a commitment to environmentally sensitive design, the project used locally sourced CMU blocks and oriented the building to utilize prevailing winds for a covered exterior lobby.
